Dirt Girl Definition
No matter what disastor hits a strongly rooted plant, it will survive. The title Dirt Girl embodies this strength. I come from a long line of such women and men. They have faced down crisis and taught me to laugh at it, learn from it, and in my particular case, write about it and paint it.
It definitely doesn't hurt to love digging in the dirt and appreciating that rich soil smell. There is still awe when a plant is able to push it's way up through the dirt and feel the sun and the rain.
After crisis, I am pushing up past the dirt toward the sun and I feel my roots are firmly held by the Grandma Hatties, the Amelia Borns, the Gordie Balfes, the Doc Koops, the Auntie Sharons, the LaVonne Millers. I am a proud Dirt Girl and I will paint.
